What else there to do at the Grand Canyon besides the obvious?

My girlfriend and I are planning a short trip to the Grand Canyon this coming weekend. I was just inquiring as to what else is there to do than stare at the canyon? It’s a 5 hour drive or so, so around 10 hours round trip, just want to make sure it’s worth it.
I heard it’s only 2 hour more onto Vegas so we might do that, but I would perfeer to not have the 7 hour drive home. Any suggestions of what to do at the Grand Canyon or other places to visit that are near Phoenix, AZ?
